Arkansas River Hatches &
“How to” Strategies to Fish Them

Bill Edrington - Yes, the Brachycentrus Caddis Hatch, but more … much more!   All the major Arkansas hatches starting in April/May around Tax Day and Mothers Day, and on into the season – BWO, Golden Stones, Red Quills and Hoppers ... also the best times, places and strategies to fish these hatches.

The Arkansas River in Southern Colorado provides the best fly fishing opportunities in the Southern Rockies. The Arkansas has more and better public access than most trout streams. If you like fly fishing for wild Brown Trout in a scenic environment among Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep and Eagles, then you will love the Arkansas River.

A sociology/criminology professor for 25 years, Bill has owned Royal Gorge Anglers in Canon City, CO since 1990, and has become one of the leading Colorado fly fishing entomologists.  In addition to teaching fly fishing, and training guides how to teach fly fishing, Bill is an author and outdoor photographer with his current new book being Fly Fishing the Arkansas, An Angler’s Guide and Journal.  He has published articles in Fly Fisherman Magazine and is a contributing writer for the High Country Angler.  Bill grew up fly fishing the small streams of Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado and after having fished around the world, still considers his home waters to be his favorite.

LAKE CAROL ANNE RAFFLE … $5.00 each … 3 for $10.00

March 13th will also be the night we raffle off a 2008 membership to Lake Carol Anne.

1st prize:  LCA membership is limited to only 100 members, and this is a great opportunity to win a $500 membership value for the price of just a few raffle tickets.

This productive and popular 14-acre fishery is located only a few minutes North of downtown.  This catch & release, pontoon or belly boat private lake is well managed and generously stocked with several varieties of game fish.  It is noted for its rainbow and brown trout that can weigh as much as fifteen pounds and bass that tip the scales at eight.  There also are plenty of large perch, crappie and bluegill.

2nd prize:  Enjoy a full day of FREE fishing at Lake Carol Anne as the guest of CCA member and fish magnet Bill McLaughlin.  A day on the water with Bill is always an enjoyable fellowship experience.

"This fly is great for an attractor above your dropper fly and emerger rig. Tied in sizes 12-14 this fly makes a great caddis imitation for fast water conditions."
